Six new transit bus routes, encourage people to use public transport

PETALING JAYA, 7 Oct: The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will create six new bus routes next year for the convenience of the people in the city.

The Mayor of Petaling Jaya, Mohd Azizi Mohd Zain, said that the plan is among the initiatives taken by the local authority to encourage the people to use public transport.

“It will facilitate the transport network for long-distances that link the north, Damansara Damai, to Petaling Jaya Selatan.

“The six routes are Damansara Damai ke Sungai Way (BT1), Kota Damansara to Ara Damansara (BT2), Damansara Damai to Sungai Way (BT3), Bandar Utama to Kelana Jaya (BT4), Bandar Utama to PJS3/2 (BT5) dan SS2 ke Jalan Othman (BT6),” he said in a speech at the tabling of the MBPJ Budget 2016 yesterday.

He said that with this plan, MBPJ hopes that the influx of private vehicles and problems such as traffic congestion can be reduced in Petaling Jaya.

He said that MBPJ also allocates RM6.59 million to pay for the cost of renting buses for the additional route from the Taman Bahagia LRT Station to SS2, Kelana Jaya and from the Taman Bahagia LRT Station to Kampung Tunku-Sea Park, next year.

“These additions also include the acquisition of electric buses to meet the vision to make Petaling Jaya a low-carbon city.

“To develop the city with this concept, MBPJ will continue to implement the Assessment Tax Rebate Scheme for environmentally-friendly owners and offer monthly parking passes for a year to the buyers of hybrid and electric cars from retail outlets around Petaling Jaya.

“It includes the installation of LED lights at back alleys and the 3R recycling programme, as well as the Carbon Management Plan Council and Petaling Jaya,” he said.
