“I am very thankful for receiving this assistance in difficult times. I am a widow who is suffering from many diseases, I cannot afford it and even the money for treatment is not enough.

“O God, getting assistance like this, I am very grateful and it lightens the load a little. Thanks for those carrying out this task,” she told Selangor Kini.

She said this at the Phase 1 Senior Citizens Scheme (SMUE) Presentation Ceremony and the Contribution to the Needy was held at compound of the Batu Tiga Community Service Centre Office, Section 23, yesterday.

Meanwhile, the recipients for education assistance for children, Khairuddin Othman, 52, said that the state government today is more concerned for the welfare of the people, especially low-income earners.

“Prior to 2008, there was no assistance at all. But now, there is support even during floods.

“Today, I received assistance because my child got into the Malaysian University of Technology in Skudai. Thanks to the state government for appreciating the people,” said Khairuddin.

For the SMUE death benevolent fund recipients, Kalliyane a/p Munisamy, 61, said that the money she received eased the burden that must be borne after the death of her husband in August.

“I’m aged and I cannot work any longer. After my husband died, I was forced to move to my sibling’s house because there was no one to take of me at my old house.

“With this assistance, I can buy my necessities,” said Kalliyane who is now living at Section 20, Shah Alam.
