SHAH ALAM, 8 Oct: The call from the Malay Rulers, who wants the government to complete the 1Malaysia Development Berhad Sdn Bhd (1MDB) issue investigation, should be given serious attention by those involved.
The Taman Medan Assemblyman, Haniza Talha, said that those involved with 1MDB cannot continue to reject this investigation because the matter has been raised by the Malay Rulers Council.
“The call was made in view that this issue is much discussed, however there is no solution. The people or political leaders from the government and also the opposition clearly reject this matter and now the issue has caused the decline in the national currency.
“In this issue, the executive should provide answers, but so far, there has not been any. The Rulers Council expressed the view as the ‘voice’ representing the people,” said the PKR Women’s Deputy Chairman.
Meanwhile, the Morib Assemblyman, Hasnul Baharuddin, said that the call is in line with the wants of the people and justice for all because there is much doubt surrounding the issue to a point where the company owes RM42 billion.
“Similarly with the RM2.6 billion that was put into the personal account of the Prime Minister. The purchase of the property that far exceeded the market price. Similarly with the purchase of the generator that was far too expensive.
“As a result, the national currency fell. Therefore, the recommendations by the Governor of Bank Negara should be followed to save the country from going bankrupt,” he said.
The Kuala Kubu Bharu Assemblyman, Lee Kee Hiong, said that the call should be taken up to restore the people’s confidence in the government institution.
“I welcome the call by the Rulers Council. This issue has dragged on for so long and the public has lost confidence in the institutions conducting the investigation,” she said.
On October 6, the Malay Rulers Council, in a statement issued by the Keeper of the Rulers Seal, Datuk Seri Syed Danial Syed Ahmad, urged the government to complete the investigation on the 1MDB issue as fast as possible and take appropriate action against those involved.
He wants all parties responsible to provide true and honest cooperation so that the purpose of the inquiry is successful.
The Malay Rulers are worried that if the issue is not handled wisely, goes on for a long time and takes too long, it will affect the country’s economy and harm the lives of the people.
