Haze: Selangor API readings moderate

SHAH ALAM, 11 Oct: The air quality in many areas in the country is in moderate condition based on the Air Pollution Index (API) as of 10 o’clock this morning.

Based on the Department of Environment (DOE), Port Klang recorded the highest API reading in Selangor with 90 compared to other regions.

Meanwhile, Banting recorded an API reading of 86, Kuala Selangor (68), Petaling Jaya (74) and Shah Alam (88) so far.

According to a report by the DOE, only ten areas in Sabah, Sarawak and Kelantan recorded good API readings, while the readings are moderate in other areas.

The DOE categorised API readings at 0-50 as good, 51-100 as moderate, 101-200 as unhealthy, 201-300 as very unhealthy and 301 and above is categorised as dangerous.

People have been advised to refrain from open burning due to the recent haze.

The public has also been urged to put out small fires caused by the hot weather and report to the Fire Department and DOE Rescuers at 1-800-88-2727.
