Toll hike against BN principle slogan

SHAH ALAM, 13 Oct: The increase in toll rates at several highways starting this Thursday is against the slogan and principle of ‘people first’ that Barisan Nasional (BN) often boasts about.

The President of the Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (ABIM), Mohamad Raimi Ab Rahman, said that the government is not sensitive to the complaints of the people behind the increasingly pressing economic situation.

“ABIM cares about the developments taking place and the government should be responsive to the people that the toll hike is burdensome and must be stopped immediately.

“This development is extremely regrettable at the time where the economy is slowing, everyone must play a role to demand that the toll increase is not continued,” he told Selangor Kini.

Raimi said that the people should continue to exert pressure to ensure that the government does not act with impunity and neglect the interests of the people.

“If the pressure and demands of the people are strong and have strong grounds, the government has no choice but to take a different approach that puts the people first.

“The time has come for the government to listen to the people and we must continue to work to ensure that toll rates are not increased,” he said.

Structural adjustment in the toll rates will come into effect on October 15, seeing an increase in toll rates at 11 highways.

The highways include the LATAR Highway, Maju Expressway (MEX), the Sungai Besi Expressway (BESRAYA), the Gombak and Bentong Toll Plazas on the Kuala Lumpur-Karak Expressway (KLK), the SILK Highway, the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) and the Duta-Ulu Kelang Expressway (DUKE).
