CM: PKNS, KPS urged to pressure concessions to cancel toll hike

SHAH ALAM, 15 Oct: The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) and Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor (KPS) have been urged to pressure highway concessionaires to cancel the toll hikes.

The Chief Minister of Selangor, Mohamed Azmin Ali, said that the two state government subsidiary companies are minority shareholders in Kesas Holdings Berhad (KESAS) and Sprint Sdn Bhd (SPRINT).

“The state government called on PKNS, which holds 30 percent in KESAS, while KPS, which holds 20 percent (SPRINT), to provide clarification on the announcement that was made by the concessionaires.

“We have been informed that until today, there was no board of directors meeting that was called by the management of KESAS and SPRINT to discuss the decision about this matter, but they were only informed.

“The state government ordered PKNS and KPS to write a letter to the management of the two concessionaires to urge a special board of directors meeting to be held to discuss the matter.

“At the meeting, the state government director PKNS and KPS to object and reject the toll hike,” he said after chairing the Selangor Economic Action Meeting at the State Government Secretary’s Building today.

Mohamed Azmin said that PKNS and KPS are responsible for representing the state government’s stand of not allowing any increase in toll rates despite only being a minority shareholder.

He also regrets the decision by the federal government to allow the toll hike while describing it as an irresponsible decision.
