SHAH ALAM, 15 Oct: The former Deputy Higher Education Minister, Datuk Saifuddin Abdullah, joined the People’s Justice Party (PKR), thus declaring his exit from Umno effective today.
The announcement was made by the PKR President, Datin Sri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail at the party headquarters in Petaling Jaya, and was also attended by Saifuddin and the PKR Deputy President, Mohamed Azmin Ali.
Prior to this, several parties urged Saifuddin, who is also the former Umno Supreme Council Member, to leave the party after allegedly issuing a different statement in contrast to their policy, this seeing that Umno cannot be criticised openly.
Saifuddin’s participation in PKR is also viewed as strengthening the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) coalition even more after the inclusion of the veteran Umno member, Tan Sri Muhammad Mohd Taib.
