The federal government should held Ladang Segambut workers

SHAH ALAM, 25 June: The federal government and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) have been urged to intervene to amicably settle the issue of the Ladang Segambut workers.

The PAS Vice President, Datuk Iskandar Abdul Samad, said that the former farm workers were not given alternatives by the developer of landowners till today.

He also informed that the residents notice was only issued three days before their homes were demolished.

“At the moment, the residents are living in tents near the site of their village, which was torn down.

“Therefore, I urge the minister involved and DBKL to help the villagers who are living in deplorable conditions now,” he said in a statement.

On June 19, three were detained in an attempt to prevent the demolition of the Ladang Segambut workers’ homes that are 100 years old.

The developer reportedly demolished a workshop, a grocery shop and five houses.

Commenting further, Iskandar, who is also the Selangor Exco for Housing, Building Management and Urban Living, said that usually the residents will be offered to purchase low-cost houses or other alternative housing.
