Selangor PAC welcomes review of the General Assistance Scheme

SHAH ALAM, 26 June: The Selangor Public Accounts Committee (PAC) welcomes the review of the General Assistance Scheme (SBA) rate that is currently being reviewed by the state government.

The PAC Acting Chairman, Ng Suee Lim, said that the proactive measures taken by the state government demonstrates the attentiveness and care for the people that is increasing.

“We are aware that Selangor is the second lowest in the SBA. We also know that the Exco involved, Dr Daroyah Alwi, informed that it is under review and the paperwork is underway.

“For the PAC and the people, it is good news. This proves that the state government is attentive and care about the people,” he told Selangor Kini.

The SBA is a monthly assistance for the elderly, widows, orphans, the disabled, dependents of prisoners, detention centres and patients.

Suee Lim said that he will also continue to monitor assistance from the state government so that it is channeled directly to recipients without any obstacles.

“We hope that this rate that is proposed, RM300 a month, can be used. We understand that Selangor also has financial constraints, but this amount is adequate for the time being,” he said.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, previously informed that the new rate for the SBA that is being reviewed by the state government through the Social Welfare Department (JKM) is in line with Selangor as the most developed state in Malaysia.

At present, the state government is reviewing the Poverty Income Line (PIL) for the residents of the state to realise the new scheme.

Yesterday, Suee Lim in a press conference wants the SBA to be around RM100 to RM175 a month when it is raised.
