Separate PM and Finance Ministry portfolios to prevent concentration of power

KUALA LUMPUR, 21 OCT: Pakatan Harapan (PAKATAN) has called on for the Prime Minister’s portfolio and that of the Finance Ministry to be separate to prevent excessive concentration of power in one individual.

In addition, the Parliament must take action to regulate state investment funds to increase accountability.

The call was made in the PAKATAN Alternative Budget 2016 which was launched in Parliament today to ensure scandals like that of 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) will not repeat.

PAKATAN has also called for Datuk Seri Najib Razak to resign as Prime Minister and place 1MDB in the administration to restore market confidence in the country’s economy

“PAKATAN is seeking the assistance of Interpol and regulatory bodies of other countries to identify, freeze, and return stolen assets to Malaysia,” said PAKATAN in the Alternative Budget 2016.

PAKATAN recommends that accountability and complete freedom needs to be handed to the Parliament for regulatory bodies such as the Attorney General, Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) and the Malaysia Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

Appointment to the position must not be done politically.
