Selangor targets to build Tahfiz schools each year

SHAH ALAM, 9 Aug: Selangor targets the construction of more Science Integrated Tahfiz Institutions each year in nine districts in the state.

The Exco for Islamic Religious Affairs, Datuk Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that it is to meet the high demand among parents and students for religious education.

He said that the existing Tahfiz Institutions can only accommodate 180 students every year.

“The demand from parents is high, that last year 400 applications were received for entry.

“However, we are not just choosing students who excel in academics, but also have strength in al-Quran understanding,” he told Selangor Kini.

At the same time, Ahmad Yunus said that some Tahfiz Institutions that are now in the pipeline are expected to be completed by this year and next year.

He said that this was in reference to the Science Integrated Tahfiz Institutions in Bagan Lalang, Sepang, and the construction of the new Science Integrated Tahfiz Institutions in Pandan, Ampang.

“Actually, we have several sites for the construction of this school and we expect for each district to have one Tahfiz Institution,” he said.

He said said that the problem faced now is in relation to hiring academic schools, especially in Science and Mathematics.

However, he said that the Selangor government would try to resolve the issue through a number of approaches and cooperation from related parties.

“We will ask for cooperation from the ministry to help get more teachers who have skills in teaching higher subjects for Form 4 and 5 students,” he said.
