Haze: State government departments and agencies ordered to cancel outdoor activities

SHAH ALAM, 22 Oct: All outdoor activities involving departments and agencies under the state government have been ordered to be cancelled and postponed due to the very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) readings.

The Exco for Health, Welfare, Women and Family Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that this ruling was done after seeing the deterioration of the air quality by the Selangor State Government Exco Meeting yesterday.

“The haze that has hit the country until now continued to worry and endanger public health.

“For the moment, no outdoor activities can be carried out, especially on Saturday and Sunday, 24 and 25 October,” she said in a statement.

According to Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia), the haze is expected to continue until 27 October as there are still open fires in Sumatra and Kalimantan.

“The people are advised to always pay attention to family members, especially children, senior citizens and those with chronic diseases so that they are not outdoors.

“Ensure that everyone has face masks and do not leave the house without wearing it,” he said.

The public have been urged to regularly monitor health, increase water intake to maintain hydration and get enough rest.
