CHERAS, 28 JAN: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has been reminded to be careful in issuing statements that may confuse the people, especially in relation to the construction of the Langat 2 Water Treatment Plant (Langat 2).
Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim said that Muhyiddin’s action to ignore the authority of the Selangor State Government in relation to the approval of the Langat 2 project clearly is against the law.
According to him, it altogether gives the impression that the Federal Government administered by Umno-BN is free to do as they please, even if it is against the Constitution.
“Muhyiddin is a Minister appointed under the Constitution, (thus) he cannot violate the Constitution. He must follow the law and not bully the people of Selangor. How can he be exemplary to the people if he himself does not adhere to the law?
“He has to be careful in issuing statements especially when holding a high post. In fact, he will be laughed at by international observers because Malaysia is the only country that does not want to comply with the law and freely does anything,” he said during a working visit to the Bandar Tun Razak Parliament.
Prior to this, Muhyiddin said in a statement, asserting that the Federal Government will continue to pursue the construction of the Langat 2 project in the nearest future even without the consent of the Selangor State Government.
He said that for the moment, to meet the people’;s increasing water demands, several water treatment plants in the stat has to increase production levels up to 100 percent.
He claimes that the Langat 2 project and its distribution system has been experiencing delays of 40.55 percent, which is about 29 months, because of the State Government’s refusal to provide necessary permits.
Previously, Abdul Khalid has informed that Syabas (Selangor Water Supply Company) has failed in the management of water supply in Selangor, that of which was expected by the State Government since two years ago.
Following the failure, Abdul Khalid said that a water operations restructuring plan was submitted by the State Government to the Federal Government to solve the problem. The scheme was however rejected.
