Restore Democracy Before Offering Reconciliation

PETALING JAYA, 25 May: Keadilan (PKR) will continue demand for the Barisan Nasional (BN) minority government to implement the Democracy Restoration Agenda before offering reconciliation.

Keadilan President Datuk Seri Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said that the agenda should be implemented through political reform, election reform and Parliamentary reform.

She said that the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s offer to have a reconciliation proved to be insincere when Umno leaders challenge anyone who does not agree with the country’s election system to move to another country.

“Does Umno-BN want 51 percent of Malaysians to migrate to other countries?

“Surely in other countries there are ‘first past the post’ systems too. But the voter gaps in large areas are not that big a difference from areas where the electorate number is small.”

She said this in her speech at the 9th Keadilan National Congress at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Civic Hall.

Previously, following a malfunction and fraud in the 13th General Election (GE-13), Pakatan Rakyat mobilised the Blackout 505 Assembly to protests against the GE-13 process which was crippled and polluted.

She added that Pakatan Rakyat remains committed in defending the people from various hardships that would be created to implement the manifesto of the people’s majority voice.

This includes urging the federal government to implement free education, to eliminate the planning of implementing the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and the AES summons, to reduce the prices of goods and to eradicate corruption and cronyism.
