Kit Siang: Early Mobilisations to Capture Sabah and Malaysia in GE-14

SHAH ALAM, June 9: DAP and Pakatan Rakyat (PR) leaders have been reminded to immediately start work to achieve the goal of capturing Sabah and the federal Government in the 14th General Election (GE-14).

DAP Advisor, Lim Kit Siang said that PR will face stiffer challenges in the GE-14 because it has the dual objectives of winning the Federal Government and controlling the Sabah Government.

According to him, this is different from the GE-13 goal which was to win the Federal Government because they only targeted in winning one-thirds of Sabah’s 26 Parliamentary seats.

“For this reason, I would like to remind the leaders, members and supporters of DAP and PR that we have no time to relax because we have to immediately start working to achieve the goal which we failed to achieve in the GE-13,” he said in a press statement today.

The Gelang Patah Member of Parliament said that in the GE-13, PR only targeted 33 seats from three Umno-BN ‘fixed deposit’ states; Sabah, Sarawak and Johor, but failed.

“PR only obtained 14 seats only (Sabah 3, Sarawak 6, Johor 5), which is only 16.9 percent of the overall 83 parliamentary seats in the three states instead of 33.3 percent as targeted,” he said.

However, he said, PR’s presence is increasingly apparent in Sabah so much so that after 20 years, they successfully won 11 Constituency seats (DAP 4, PKR 7) during the GE-13.

Apart from the four constituency seats won, Sabah DAP will immediately focus on the other 13 areas such as Elopura, Karamunting, Tanjong Papat, Tanjong Aru, Karanaan, Paginatan, Tanjong Kapor, Melalap, Kemabong, Liaiwan, Sook, Tambunan and Merotai.

Hence, Kit Siang said that the members of Parliament and Assemblymen from Sabah and outside Sabah are encouraged to take one of the 13 areas as an adopted area.

He said that the Seputeh Member of Parliament, Teresa Kok as the Central Working Committee Coordinator (CEC) for Sabah and Sarawak, and a Committee Member for DAP Sabah will formulate the details for the ‘adopted area’ programme for elected representatives from DAP.

This will also allow more than one DAP elected representatives to be appointed as an ‘adopted’ representative for each of the 13 areas.

“As a first step, I will take Karanan as my adopted constituency,” he said.
