Anwar Conveys Condolences to the Family of Kuala Besut Assemblyman

KUALA LUMPUR, June 27: Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed his condolences to the family of Kuala Besut Assemblyman, Dr Abdul Rahman Mokhtar, who was pronounced dead this morning due to lung cancer.

Abdul Rahman, 55, who was a member of the Terengganu Exco, died seven days after being admitted to the Sultanah Nur Zahirah intensive care unit (ICU)

“I express my condolences to the family of the late Abdul Rahman on his death and I pray that his soul is blessed,” he said when met by reporters at the Parliament lobby.

The deceased’s body was buried at the Teluk Bayu Kuala Besut Mosque Muslim cemetery after the Zuhr prayers.

Meanwhile, while commenting on the by-elections which is expected to take place due to the Kuala Besut Assemblyman’s death, Anwar explained that it is still too early to decide.

However, he is confident that the top leadership of PAS will hold a meeting in the near future to decide on the candidate to be places in the area.

“PAS will decide that later in their supreme leadership meeting,” he said.

In the recent 13th General Election last month, Abdul Rahman defeated PAS candidate, Napsiah Ismail with a majority of 2,434 votes.
