SHAH ALAM, July 7: Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim hopes that the relations between Japan and Malaysia, Selangor in particular, will be closer in future so that the development in the state will grow to be more advanced.

According to him, the relationship previously established has made Shah Alam rapidly develop in the manufacturing industry.

“The State Government has always supported joint ventures with Japan when it comes to development or festivals like this because it involves a part of the state development.

“We hope that such cooperation can be maintained and improved for the people of this state and we will see that in terms of development, we will develop in collaboration with Japanese companies,” he told reporters after officiating the 37th Bon Odori Festival here at the Panasonic Sports Complex.

Also present was the Exco for Tourism, Consumer Affairs and Environment, Elizabeth Wong and the Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia, Shigeru Nakamura.

More than 30,000 people of various races and religions attended the event. Some of them wore kimonos and zoris.

There were 35 stalls selling Japanese food and clothing.

The Bon Odori celebration is celebrated by the Japanese during the summer to remember the contributions of their ancestors.

It is understood that a total of 40,000 visitors attended the festival last year which was also held in Shah Alam.
