Agricultural Sector Contributes RM 326 Million to Selangor’s Economy

SHAH ALAM, July 8: The contribution of the agricultural sector to Selangor’s economy has increased to RM326 million in year 2012 from RM225 million in year 2011.

Agricultural Exco, Sallehen Mukhyi said the contribution is from programms that include the Group Agricultural Project the Permanent Food Production Site (TPKM), entrepreneurship programmes and wastelands.

He said, Selangor also has shown good performance in the agricultural sector by recording several successes in the agricultural industry in the past five years.

“It involves contribution from the production of rice, fruits, vegetables, horticulture, spices and plantation crops as well as agriculture-based downstream products that has produced a total of RM326 million in year 2012.

“The TPKM project has successfully yielded and is the highest income in Malaysia when a total of 26,000 metric tonnes were produced with a total of RM31 million,” said Sallehen during the Selangor State Assembly session today.

He added that the Selangor rice bowl has the highest rice yield compared to other rice bowls in other states by producing an average of 6.1 metric tonnes per hectare in 2012.
