PETALING JAYA, August 4: The Attorney General has been urged to carry out thorough investigations in relation with a defamation levelled against Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Karpal Singh, the prosecutors and the national judiciary.

This is regarding an allegation in an eight-page letter being circulated by certain parties in the Permatang Pauh Parliamentary Constituency recently.

According to Anwar, he is disappointed with the latest defamatory allegations levelled against him by certain quarters when Muslims are still fasting in the Ramadan month.

“The defamation is outrageous because it insults me (Anwar) and him (Karpal) because it involves the issue of allegations and accusations against judges who were bought with the amount.

“So we have filed a police report together and we have agreed to take appropriate legal action against these slanderous accusations,” he said in a press conference here at the PKR headquarters.

He lodged a police report with the DAP Chairman, Karpal Singh, at the Police Station here at Merchant Square.

He said that the defamatory accusations thrown at him and Karpal are a result of planning of certain quarters to divert the people’s view from more pressing issues related to the economy, violent crimes and corruption scandals.

Meanwhile, according to Karpal Singh, he will be taking legal action against those involved in the defamation in the nearest future.

He said that the allegations made by anonymous parties cannot be the basis in legislation.

“This allegation is unfounded, unreasonable and wild,” he said.

Previously, an eight-page letter published for the voters in Permatang Pauh was sent to the homes of the residents over the past few days, and among others, contains a variety of bank account numbers allegedly belonging to Anwar.
