Selangor Targets for 30 Percent of Cleaning Work to be done by Local Authorities

SHAH ALAM, 8 SEPT: The State Government targets for 30 percent of cleaning work in urban areas to be done internally by local authorities (LA) in the next three years.

“The aim of the state government in looking at this policy is to look forward to a clean, conducive and orderly municipality through a comprehensive action plan with the cooperation of people from all walks of life,” said the Executive Councillor in charge of Local Government, Studies and Research, Datuk Teng Chang Khim.

He said this at the Clean Zone Programme launch at the MBSA Volleyball Hall here in Section 4.

Teng said that efforts to clean-up an area should be made the priority of all local authorities as their responsibilities include keeping the highest levels of cleanliness.

He added that it is time for residents of Shah Alam to recycle waste effectively as it can help reduce waste in landfills in order to preserve the environment.

“Close cooperation between local authorities and corporate bodies should be strengthened and given new impetus by implementing programmes continuously.

“If this initiative is continues, it can also reduce the problems related to socio-economy, environment and urban greening,” said Teng.

The ceremony was also attended by the Mayor of Shah Alam, Datuk Mohd Jaafar Mohd Atan and the Assemblyman for Kota Anggerik, Dr Yaakob Sapari.
