PKR Consumer Bureau: Diesel Shortage Affects Wages

SHAH ALAM, December 26th: The Federal Government has failed to resolve the diesel shortage issue at gas stations across the country that occurs frequently, especially at the end of the month.

This follows the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumer Affairs’ statement to find a solution quickly to the problem, however any concrete action has yet to be taken. Chairman of the PKR Consumer Bureau, Yahya Sahri, said that the federal government should act quickly to resolve problems that occur at the end of each month.

Yahya said that the Federal Government’s indifferent attitude causes difficulty for operators of heavy vehicles or petrol stations who stand to make losses.

“Many areas are suffering from this shortage. This causes a lot of complaints in quite a few areas

“When you look at it properly, diesel shortage causes a lot of problems and delays in the smooth running of the transportation process.”1-2

“It impacts the incomes of those affected and can cause them to make individual and corporate losses,” he commented upon being contacted by SelangorKini.

Yahya hopes that organised plans to ensure diesel supply by the Federal Government will be put in place to prevent such problems from recurring.”One wonders how exactly the distribution takes place. We want it to run smoothly and hope there is no agenda behind this issue,” he added.

Previously, Petroleum Dealers Association of Malaysia’s (PDAM) President, Datuk Hisham Othman said that he does not want the problem to persist for over a year and needs to be resolved so that the supply is not affected.

The lack of fuel at the end of each month troubles and burden consumers.

Petrol stations usually run out of diesel three to five days before the end of the month and most of the blame are aimed at the operators.
