Daroyah Denies the Existence of 80 Internet Gambling Centres in Sementa

KLANG, 7 Jan: Claims that there are 80 internet gambling centres in the Sementa State Legislative Assembly (DUN) as portrayed by certain quarters is deemed inaccurate and is far from the actual figures released by the Klang Municipal Council (MPK).

The Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Entrepreneurial Development, Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that she, together with MKP, conduct regular monitoring on premises found to be involved in internet gambling.

She said that statistics show that the Sementa DUN has 10 registered cybercafes, while action has been taken on 34 others that have been identified to not have valid licences.

“Statistics reported shows that there are not many gambling premises in Sementa compared to other places, and in fact, it is among the lowest, as presented by the MPK Enforcement Head, Andry Arman.

“Claims that there are 80 gambling premises in Sementa is highly inaccurate and false. In fact, it has been proven and supported with the issuing of little compounds compared to other locations under the supervision of MPK.

“MPK has performed their duties at the said premises and there is no problem regarding this matter,” she said when contacted by Selangor Kini today.

Earlier, the Keadilan Youth (AMK) Chief for the Kapar branch, Ahmad Kamarudin, claimed that Daroyah, who is also the Assemblywoman for Sementa, failed to resolve several issues, including allegations that there is an increasing number of internet gambling centres in the area.

Kamarudin claimed that the matter was brought up to Daroyah when she was the Sementa DUN coordinator, representing PKR before the 13th General Election (GE13), however, no action was taken.

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Kapar, G Manivannan, who is also linked with the gambling premises issue, slammed irresponsible individuals who made the allegations and regarded them as false.

He said that MPK has always monitored based on complaints from the public under the existing provisions of the law from time to time.

“I strongly deny allegations stating the Kapar Parliament is like Genting Highlands (a casino centre) because it is clearly false and it has been deliberately brought up to tarnish the image of Executive Councillors and the state government.

“Stop irresponsible allegations and slander. MPK has actively been carrying out their duties to monitor the issue,” he said.
