Voters Welcome Anwar to Contest in Kajang

KAJANG, 3 Feb: The Kajang community considers the nomination of Opposition Leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, as a candidate for Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) in the Kajang by-election as being timely and they are confident with Anwar’s ability advocate the people’s issues.

The opinion was expressed by residents of Kajang themselves as Anwar is generally known as having experience and a good record when he was the Deputy Prime Minister and the Finance Minister of Malaysia previously.

“As a resident of Kajang, I am certainly proud when I found out that Datuk Seri Anwar will ber personally contesting here because we all know his integrity and leadership qualities as the Opposition Leader.

“As a resident of Kajang, I welcome him as the Kajang Assemblyman. I think that Anwar’s presence will improve the lives of the people in Kajang,” said Arif Abd Wahab, 56, a food hawker in Bandar Kajang.

Arif, who is a retiree from the Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), said this to Selangor Kini in a public survey to obtain response from Kajang voters on the issue of Anwar’s nomination as a candidate today.

Arif also hopes that if Anwar wins in the Kajang by-election, that he will focus on issues affecting the interests of small businesses, especially Malay traders in Kajang.

Mariyappan Vadivelu, 82, who has been working as a taxi driver in Kajang for 43 years, said that Anwar’s nomination as a candidate is the best decision and it is most anticipated by Kajang voters.

“He is an old face (in politics), he has a lot experience, even as the Deputy Prime Minister (and) Finance Minister. I think that he will win and give the best service to the residents here,” said Mariyappan.

Ambulance crew, Muhammad Fahyudin, 28, said that Anwar can be considered as a citizen’s idol, especially to the young people, in advocating the people’s rights.

“Datuk Seri Anwar is an idol to the common people, especially the young. So it would be good if he became the Assemblyman here. The residents here would be lucky. I believe that Anwar can help in terms of improving the lives of the people here,” he told Selangor Kini.

He added that the by-election which will be happening in Kajang would have a positive impact on the people with the presence of many election staff which will spur the resident’s economy, especially those involved in businesses.

Che Puan Baharum, 52, a traditional masseuse, is of the opinion that the aura of a competent leader Anwar possesses has caused him to be liked by people from all walks of life.

“I hope that when Anwar wins, he would help people with difficulties like me, as I am already over 0-year’s old and do not have the strength to massage anymore,” she said.
