Syabas Urged to Take Immediate Steps to Solve Water Problem in Kuala Langat

SHAH ALAM, 11 Feb: The Selangor Water Supply Company (Syabas) has been urged to take immediate steps to address the water outage which has affected the routine of residents from four villages in Kuala Langat.

The Sepang PAS President, Jaafar Pangat, said that the water outage has been going on for four days as the Bukit Tampoi Water Plant has been closed due to the high levels of ammonia at the plant which has almost reached pH 3.8.

He said that it if feared that 20,000 residents in Kampung Bukit Canggang, Olak Lempik, Labuhan Dagang and Rancangan Tanah Belia have been affected by the closure of the plant.

“We have already contacted Syabas and they are not able to do anything. In the event of rain, the water level will rise and the ammonia will be gone. It has not rained for three weeks,” he said, quoted from Harakah Daily.

However, he said, the water assistance provided by Syabas is not sufficient to accommodate the demands of the residents; so much so that some opened-up fire hydrants at road sides.

“The situation is no longer under control, to a point that fights broke out due to fighting over water,” he said.

To mitigate this problem, he also suggested for Syabas to work hard to dig wells; at least one well per village.

“We will provide energy to guard the wells guarded for 24 hours, Syabas only needs to issue a capital of RM4,000 per well. There are limited water trucks to depend on and at certain times only.

“Right now, residents are trying to find water mines. We do not want that because most of the water in the mines are contaminated and may cause disease breakouts,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sijangkang Assemblyman, Ahmad Yunus Hairi, on his Facebook page, invited residents suffering from water problems to visit his house to fetch water at no charge.

“This is the water speed at my house so far. Those in need can come to my house and fetch (water) without charges. The tap is outside my home. Just be sure to turn it off. Hopefully, there will be blessings from Allah.

“We pray for Allah to surprise us in the prayers tonight and bring us rain to restore the water in Selangor,” he wrote.
