Azmin Changes His Tune, Now Supports the Importance of Water MoU

KAJANG, 7 Mar: The Assemblyman for Bukit Antarabangsa, Mohamed Azmin Ali, changed his tune when talking about the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) related to the Selangor water issue.

He is also seen as supporting the agreement of Pakatan Rakyat leaders who unanimously agreed to the MoU signed between the Selangor Government and the Federal Government.

Azmin spoke in front of about 200 attendees at the launch of the Pakatan Rakyat Operations Room at the Sungai Kantan District last night.

He repeated the same statement to a group of reporters after a speech session when asked to comment on the Pakatan leader’s meeting regarding the issue the previous night.

“We want the water industry to be standardised after being managed inconsistently and separately all these while,” said the Selangor PKR Chairman.

Azmin was among the participants in a discussion with Abdul Khalid and main leaders of Pakatan Rakyat.

Apart from them, also at the discussion was the Selangor Economic Advisor, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim; the PAS President, Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang and the DAP Parliamentary Leader, Lim Kit Siang.

Previously, Azmin was among some PKR leaders that fiercely disputed Abdul Khalid’s move to sign the MoU which is aimed at returning the water rights to the people.

He also urged for the contents of the MoU to be disclosed, and had the cheek to make a statement saying that Abdul Khalid ‘should not hide behind the Official Secrets Act (OSA).

Instead, Azmin in the speech, deemed the MoU as a success and is the pride of the people of Selangor, and even assumed the handling of the Langat 2 project as effective.

“After six years of negotiating, finally the Selangor Government managed to convince the Federal Government to accept the RM9.65 billion offer to concessionaires and the amount is guaranteed to not be more than that.

“We also agreed to continue the Langat 2 project with strict conditions so that the tariff rate will not be increased arbitrarily by the Federal Government,” he said.
