CM: Water Scheduling Until Dam Level Exceeds 55 Percent

SHAH ALAM, 8 Apr: The water scheduling in the state will continue until the level of water in dams reach 55 to 60 percent.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that currently, there are dams where the water level has reached up to 70 percent, however there are dams that have only reached 39 percent.

He said, based on research, raw water cannot be channeled to residents if the level of water in dams only reaches 39 percent because some areas will not enjoy water supply.

“At 39 percent, this is at a critical level, the receding of water will be greatly diminished if water production is not controlled, it will result in water not being supplied to residential areas.

“The water rationing will be discontinued if the dams are filled up to 55 to 60 percent,” he said, answering a supplementary question from Haniza Talha (PKR-Taman Medan).

Abdul Khalid also informed that the water rationing has nothing to do with the restructuring of water in the state which is rapidly being resolved.

“However, one of the restructuring plans is that we will implement the Horas project which will keep water catchments at a rate of 600 million litres per day (MLD) in two years and 5000 MLD in the next four years,” he said.

In the meantime, the dam readings by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) show a small increase over the last few days.

As of Monday, the readings are: 78.27 % (Batu) , 53,96 % (Klang Gates), 49.35 % (Langat), 71,22 % ( Semenyih ), 37.31 % (Sg Selangor) , 61.46 % ( Sg Tinggi ) and 87,24 % (Tasik Subang).
