Selangor Plans to Build Hospital in Kapar, Accommodate More Patients

SHAH ALAM, 9 Apr: The State Government is now planning to submit an application to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (MOH) to build another hospital in Kapar, Klang, to accommodate the number of patients in Selangor.

The Executive Councillor in charge of Health, Dr Daroyah Alwi, said that as of now, Selangor has 11 hospitals and four of them are specialist hospitals with a total of 4,463 beds.

She said that currently, the number of staff and available beds are sufficient to provide treatment for all the people in Selangor; however the State Government is always looking for room to improve from time to time.

“The State Government will increase the number of beds from 4,463 to 4,822 beds in four specialist hospitals; the hospitals in Selayang, Serdang, Ampang and Sungai Buloh.

“Meanwhile the number of hospital staff at the moment is 15,780, 1,830 medical officers and 621 specialists.

“For the Tengku Ampuan Rahimah Hospital, MOH will add 300 more beds, while for the Shah Alam Hospital, which will be completed in September, will provide healthcare services to the residents of the Klang Valley with 300 beds,” she said.

She said this in response to a question by Loh Chee Heng (DAP-Telok Datok) and Gen Pei Nei (PKR-Rawang) during the Selangor State Assembly session today.

At the same time, Daroyah also informed that the State Health Department has adequate basic medical supplies to treat ten chronic diseases in Selangor.

These diseases are; lung problems (9.96 percent of cases), infection (9 percent of cases), cardiovascular or heart attack (7 percent of cases), colon (5 percent of cases), kidney (4.7 percent of cases), tumours and cancer (4 percent of cases), congenital abnormalities (3.9 percent of cases), diabetes (3.32 percent of cases), poor health (2.9 percent of cases) and blood diseases (2.8 percent of cases).

“The State Government is always encouraging the people of Selangor to take care of their health and we have launched a healthy lifestyle campaign, where we invite the people to care for their health.

“With the top ten chronic diseases in Selangor, we will gradually move to reduce these chronic illnesses,” she said.
