Ministry Remains Silent, Prevents Selangor’s Aspirations to Cooperate in Sports

SHAH ALAM, 10 Apr: The Ministry of Youth and Sports (MYS) continues to remain silent without any response to the Selangor Government’s efforts to collaborate and discuss the direction of sports development in the state.

The Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Dr AHmad Yunus Hairi, said that they are still hopeful despite waiting almost a year in this regard.

“We hold to Khairy Jamaluddin’s speech when he was first appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports. He expressed his wish to be fair and cooperate well, regardless of political background.

“Therefore, I, as the Exco for Youth and Sports, represented the State Government in sending a letter to meet with the MYS to discuss a form of cooperation and several agenda on the development of sports in Selangor and nationally.

“Unfortunately, until now there has been no feedback on the letter,” he told Selangor Kini at the Annex Hall recently.

Prior to this, in June 2013, the State Government sent a letter to the MYS to hold a meeting to discuss cooperation and the direction of sports development in Selangor.

This was taken in hope that provisions from the Federal Government to the State Government will no longer be discriminates, as experienced by Selangor last term.

“If we want to see the youth and sports in the country develop greatly and give a positive impact on the country, I hope that Khairy will not turn away from what he said before.

“I am very worried; to this second there has been no response from MYS and Khairy to cooperate with Selangor. It seems that politics is a large enough barrier between Selangor and MYS in developing youth and sports,” he said.
