SHAH ALAM, 4 May: The State Government will conduct periodic monitoring and review to ensure that the raw water supply in Selangor is adequate to be distributed to consumers.
The Executive Councillor for Youth and Sports, Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the press conference on the water level of each dam in Selangor will also continue every three days for public knowledge.
“The State Government cannot guarantee 100 percent (that the water rationing will not recur) because of the drought which will take place in July, but we will monitor and review it from time to time.
“We will also inform about the condition of the raw water source and related issues every three days,” he told Selangor Kini after inaugurating the International Sports Day for the Selangor state level near here.
Earlier, the Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, informed that the scheduled water distribution or water rationing, which was implemented since February, is stopped simultaneously in all affected areas, starting from 1 May.
The decision was made jointly with the National Water Services Commission (SPAN), the Selangor Water Management Authority (LUAS), the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB) and concessionaires at the Selangor State Water Supply Rationing Plan meeting recently.
The State Government also feels that there is no need to wait for the dams to reach a capacity of 50 percent because they believe the hard work carried out, like pumping water from ponds and continuous rain in catchment areas, will further increase the water levels at dams.
