Bukit Gelugor By-Election: Four-Cornered Clash on May 25

GEORGETOWN, 12 May: The by-election for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat on May 25 will witness a four-cornered clash.

The nomination process began at 9 this morning at Dewan Sri Pinang, and was closed at 10 am.

DAP has placed Ramkarpal Singh, 38, the third son of the late Karpal Singh, as the candidate to retain the parliamentary seat.

He is being challenged by the Vice President of Parti Cinta Malaysia (PCM), Datuk Huan Cheng Guan; Umno member, Mohamed Nabi Bux Mohd Nabi Abdul Sathar and independent candidate, Abdul Bakar Sidek.

MCA was supposed to represent Barisan Nasional (BN), but decided to not put up a candidate.

In the last general election, Karpal Singh won with a landslide majority of 41,778 votes, defeating his opponent from BN, Teh Beng Yeam.

The Election Commission has set May 25 as the polling day for the by-election and May 21 for early voting.

The Bukit Gelugor seat was left vacant after the incumbent, Karpal Singh, died in a tragic road accident on April 17. 17 April.
