SHAH ALAM, 15 May: The culture of leaving and entering parties, like what was done by three leaders of Terangganu Umno, clearly proves that the administration of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is so weak that it can be threatened by its own members.
The Terengganu Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Chairman, Azan Ismail, said that this unhealthy culture has spread among Umno members, opposing the basic political administration practiced in this country.
He said that the action of volunteering oneself as ‘hostage ‘ by leaving Barisan Nasional (BN) then threatening to get a ‘reward’ to re-enter the party is seen as a bad and a lowly trend in terms of political values and moral.
“If you feel like hopping (parties), hop and if you feel like re-entering, you re-enter. This proves that Najib’s administration is in very poor condition that it can be threatened by members themselves.
“Leaving and entering (the party) is a behaviour that is very disrespectful of the State Legislative Assembly (DUN) and the Parliament, they use it for personal reasons like they are uneducated enough to understand the meaning of constitutional democracy, parliament and DUN,” said Azan, who is also the Bandar Assemblyman, to Selangor Kini today.
At the same time, Azan said that the ‘u-turn’ made by the Umno trio (Ahmad Said, Ghazali Taib and Roslee Daud) is something expected because that way, they are able to fulfil their own agendas.
He stressed that this should not happen because such action does not bring any good, and in fact, it threatens the smooth running of the administration in Terengganu.
He also believes that the same tactics will be likely used in states that have ‘critical’ positions, like Perak, to obtain favours.
“Making position in the dewan something to threaten and get compensation is like taking ‘hostages’ in politics so that the people will be anxious, upset and administration cannot be implemented properly.
“This new Umno culture, which robs the people’s money by making themselves hostages and asking for compensation, is like staying at home, then taking your children and threatening to kill them in order to get compensation from the head of the family,” he said.
Prior to this, the former Chief Minister of Terengganu, Datuk Seri Ahmad Said, withdrew his resignation from Umno after the Prime Minister apologised to him.
Ahmad said to reporters at his home in Kamaman that this is because of a misunderstanding regarding the date of his daughter’s marriage, which will take place on May 17.
During the press conference, Ahmad also said that all the Assemblymen who resigned also did the same.
With Ahmad’s move, the political crisis that happened in Terengganu is now over when the number of seats held by BN remains the majority in the state with 17 seats, followed by PAS (14 seats) and PKR (1 seat).
