Uniqueness of migratory birds could make Selangor famous

SHAH ALAM, 10 June: The uniqueness of birds migrating across continents to Kuala Selangor each year has the potential of becoming a famous tourism product in the country.

The Vice President of the Malaysia Nature Society, Professor Dr Ahmad Ismail, said that Malaysia is at the top 20 on the tourist map that has diversity and originality of nature.

“In Kuala Selangor, there is also the Wings Festival each year to attract foreign tourists to see birds in the midst of their migration.

“There was a time where tourists from 21 countries came to Malaysia to take pictures of birds,” said Dr Ahmad.

Throughout October each year, the Kuala Selangor Nature Park will be flooded by foreign tourists who visit merely to witness migratory birds around the park.

He said that there is a lot of uniqueness and natural beauty in Selangor that has the potential to be developed as a famous tourism product.

“The people should be educated in school to conserve natural resources, not just for food, but also for tourism.

He said this during the press conference on the Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Development Forum at the Annex Hall in the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah today.

Meanwhile, the Executive Councillor for Tourism and Environment, Elizabeth Wong, when opening the forum, said that activities that preserve the environment should be conducted more consistently to ensure that the attraction of natural can be maintained.

“Selangor has been awarded by the beauty of eco-tourism like forests, waterfalls, beaches and nature, which is the focus of tourism.

“Among the exciting eco-tourism spots to visit is to see fireflies in Kuala Selangor, paddy fields in Sabak Bernam, forests in Kuala Kubu Bahru and the waterfall in Hulu Langat,” said Elizabeth.
