SHAH ALAM, 30 June: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) has urged the Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai, to immediately form an independent investigation body in relation to the disappearance of the Malaysia Airlines MH370 aircraft.
The PKR Vice President, Nurul Izzah Anwar, said that this should be done as the families of passengers and crew are still waiting for an answer for over three months.
“I urge the minister to establish an independent investigation body consisting of air accident investigation experts from around the world.
“Hopefully, with this independent investigation body, the families of passengers will receive the answers they are looking for and the credibility of Malaysia can be saved,” she said in a press statement.
Izzah also urged Tiong Lai to disclose the audit report on the Department of Civil Aviation and the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) radar systems.
She said that the safety of KLIA2 has also been repeatedly questioned and the former Acting Minister of Transport, Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein, has also stated that the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) will conduct an audit on the safety of the airport.
“The scope of this audit is still not known. Is it true that this audit will be performed? If so, I ask the minister to disclose the report immediately.
“Among the duties of the minister is to set up an independent investigation body for the MH370 incident, to immediately reveal the ICAO audit report on the damage of the Subang Airport radar system on 12 September 2012, as well as the scope and ICAO audit report on KLIA2, which was promised by the deputy minister on June 16,” she said.
She said that the audit, which she has been recommending since 2012, must be carried out and presented to ensure that the country will not be affected by any weaknesses and to identify actions, follow-up moves and safety to enhance the preparedness of the civil aviation airspace.
“We have asked for the Malaysian airspace system to be audited by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO). To this day, the people are still waiting to know if the audit was carried out.
“If the audit was carried out and recommendations to overhaul was performed, the MH370 aircraft would not be lost today as a result of a more accurate radar system. For the safety of all Malaysians and visitors to this country, I urge for the minister to investigate the civil aviation radar systems,” she said.
