Commonwealth Games: Malaysia gets 3 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze medals

GLASGOW, 29 July: The national badminton squad successfully defended their title when they won the gold medal in the mixed doubles event after defeating England 3-1 in the finals this morning.

The winning point for the team at the Emirates Arena was contributed by the women’s singles player, Tee Jing Yi, who defeated Sarah Walked 21-16, 21-17.

This is the third consecutive gold for the Malaysian badminton squad at the Commonwealth Games since 2006.

The victory also helped the national contingent collect three gold medals so far and for more to meet the target.

The medal count so far is 3 gold, 5 silver and 4 bronze.

As predicted, the national squash queen, Datuk Nicol Ann David, won a gold medal in the women’s singles after defeating her arch-rival, Laura Massaro from England, 3-0.

The world number one won the match at the Scotstoun Sports Campus with 12-10, 11-2, 11-5.

The 30-year-old also managed to deliver her promise to defend the title she won four years ago in New Delhi.
