Security enhanced at water pump to avoid sabotage

SHAH ALAM, 6 Aug: The State Government will enhance security measures at the alternative pool water pumping operations areas to avoid the recurrence of sabotage.

The Executive Councillor for Infrastructure and Public Amenities, Dr Ahmad Yunus Hairi, said that the State Government has received cooperation from the police and the Malaysian People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) to tightly control operations.

The Pool Operations Room established in the nearby area has started to operate 24 hours to ensure that the pumping carries out smoothly without interruption.

“All mitigation measures have been coordinated by LUAS and implemented with commitment from the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID), Kumpulan Semesta Sdn Bhd (KSSB), MET and several other agencies.

“The State Government hopes that all parties can give their cooperation, do not try to sabotage, disrupt operations or attempt to cause worry among consumers,” he said in a statement today.

On August 2, a group of unscrupulous people cut the wiring system at six pumps at the Hang Tuah pool.

Prior to that, at the beginning of Shawwal, a team handling the pumps at the HORAS area in Bestari Jaya was threatened by a group of armed thugs to leave the area.

In other developments, Yunus said that the current status of the dam capacity as of 5 August 2014 have registered a decline; between 0.38 percent to 2.91 percent.

The Semenyih Dam recorded the highest decline of 2.91 percent, followed by Sungai Tinggi (2.16), Sungai Selangor (1.18), Tasik Subang (1.11), Batu (0.99), Langat (0.38), while Klang Gates remains at the same capacity without a decrease.

To ensure continuous supply, the State Government continues to take mitigation measures, including reducing the water release from the Sungai Selangor Dam to 700 million litres per day (MLD) and the Sungai Tinggi Dam to 500 MLD.

In addition, cloud seeding operations are continuously conducted in collaboration with the Malaysian Air Force (RMAF), the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MET) and AF Jet Sdn Bhd around the catchment areas in Selangor.
