MAS should review policies & strategies, not let go of 6,000 workers

SHAH ALAM, 1 Sept: Malaysia Airlines System (MAS) should conduct a comprehensive review to address aspects of policies, strategies and structure more specifically instead of discontinuing its employees.

The PAS Director of the Research and Development Centre, Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad, said that MAS should balance their role and pressure on the staff union which is perceived as being too strong in terms of performance and efficiency of the management system.

He said that the role of employees must be used to enhance MAS and not vice versa.

“It is important for the welfare of MAS staff to be given attention by the management so that they can be absorbed into the aviation industry or given training again so that they are given the skill set to change careers.

“Various aspects of compensation and work ethic should be enhanced so that they have a career pathway that is clear to advance, either the cabin crew or technical and engineering staff,” he told Selangor Kini.

He said that MAS also needs to address the issues of their top leadership not being strong and enterprising compared to MAS competitors, as well as expatriate personnel to boost internal competition.

Recently, Khazanah Nasional Berhad announced that MAS will let go of 6,000 (30 percent) of their 20,000 employees.

As the largest shareholder of MAS, Khazanah announced massive job cuts after their daily loss of RM3 million for the first half of the current financial year.
