AMK: Sedition Act threats freedom of human rights, drop charges

SHAH ALAM, 9 Sept: The Malaysian Keadilan Youth (AMK) urged for all charges under the Sedition Act to be immediately dropped and repealed without being replaced by another Act.

The AMK Chief, Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, said that AMK takes the sedition charges against various people seriously.

Among those who have been charged is the Senior Lecturer at the University of Malaya (UM), Associate Professor Dr Azmi Sharom.

“The threat is not only against academic freedom, but also human rights in general.

“I urge all parties, especially academic staff and students across the country to come together to express their support towards Prof Madya Dr Azmi Sharom,” he said in a press statement.
