CM: The people are invited to celebrate the Lantern Festival on September 13

SHAH ALAM, 10 Sept: The people of Selangor, regardless of race, are invited to enliven the Lantern Festival 2014 on Saturday, September 13.

The Chief Minister, Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim, said that the festival organised by the State Government is able to strengthen mutual understanding and tolerance between the races in the state and Malaysia, in general.

He said that the organisation of the Lantern Festival is held every year to appreciate diversity in this state which is the pillar of racial strength and unity.

“We welcome everyone from various races and religions to enliven this celebration as a sign that we appreciate diversity in this country.

“I, representing the State Government, invite the people of Selangor, regardless of race and religion, to enliven this occasion,” he said during a press conference after the Executive Council meeting today.

The Lantern Festival 2014 will be held at the Chempaka Buddhist Lodge, Taman Sea Petaling Jaya, from 3 pm to 11 pm.

Abdul Khalid said that the State Government expects over 7,000 visitors at the festival this time which is co-organised by Tourism Selangor, the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) and Chempaka Buddhist Lodge,

“The celebration will be graced with cultural performances such as a lion dance and Wushu performance, magic shows, exhibitions and a lantern procession, in addition to souvenir stalls.

“The organisers will also distribute lanterns for free to visitors, especially to children, in addition to special prizes for lucky visitors,” he said.
