Anwar seeks forgiveness from the Sultan of Selangor

SHAH ALAM, 19 Sept: The PKR de facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, asked for forgiveness from the Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, for issuing the statement that submitting one Chief Minister candidate’s name was a convention which has been practiced since independence in 1957.

Anwar, in a statement to the Sultan’s Private Secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, said that he only stated what happened to his knowledge while he was in the Barisan Nasional (BN) government from 1982 to 1998.

“I want to clarify that I only stated what happened to the best of my knowledge, especially throughout my time in the Umno-BN government since 1982 to 1998.

“If I was in the wrong, I seek forgiveness from the Sultan of Selangor,” said Anwar.

Previously, the Selangor Palace explained that the practice of asking for more than one candidate’s name for the nomination of Chief Minister was the standard practice since the time of BN’s administration.

The Sultan of Selangor’s Private Secretary, Datuk Mohamad Munir Bani, explained that during the BN administration, several candidates’ names were submitted by the Prime Minister in a ceremony to go before the Sultan and the Sultan of Selangor choose a candidate who he deemed fit.
