Adam Adli sentenced to 12 months imprisonment

KUALA LUMPUR, 19 Sept: Student activist Adam Adli was sentenced to 12 months in jail my the Sessions Court here after being found guilty of giving a speech which was seditious at a talk at a hall in May last year.

Judge Mat Ghani Abdullah made the decision after finding that the defense failed to prove that the case was beyond reasonable doubt.

He was charged for committing the offense at the Kuala Lumpur and Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall at Jalan Maharajalela, Dang Wangi, between 8.55 pm and 11.15 pm on May 13, 2013.

The accused was charged under Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 (Act 15) and can be charged under Section 4(1) of the same which carries a maximum penalty of RM5,000 or five years in prison if convicted.

The court however granted the appeal by counsel Latheefa Koya to delay the implementation of the sentence.
