Selangor MSN welcomes desire to increase sports provisions

SHAH ALAM, 21 Oct: The Selangor State Sports Council (MSNS) welcomes the state government’s desire to increase provisions to improve the sports facilities in the state to ensure that the performance of sports and athletes are in the best condition.

The Deputy Director of the MSNS Sports Development Division, Mohamad Nizam Marjugi, said that the existing facilities in Selangor do not meet standards which make it difficult to organise sports championships, whether at the national or international level.

He said that the additional provisions are very much needed to meet the five key demands; facilities (equipment), coaches, athletes, welfare and appreciation.

“If it was my part to develop sports, I will be very thankful and grateful if the state government allocates additional funds for sports facilities.

“Actually, we can see that there is a stadium in every district, but some are not complete and it is hard to hold championships at the national and international level.

“So, with this additional provisions, I feel that sports development can be carried out better and increases the performance of athletes,” he told Selangor Kini.

He said that they have asked for additional provisions from the old state government administration; however the need was not seen as comprehensive and it stunted efforts to upgrade sports development in Selangor.

He said that due to that, the performance of athletes in Selangor have been affected and has dropped because they did not receive complete facilities and training.

“We had asked, but unfortunately the need was not seen as comprehensive. If we look at the performance of athletes, for example in the SUKLMA, this state has been left behind but people only see that the athletes are not good.

“The problem is that if we want the athletes to be better, the need adequate and complete training areas, however most of the facilities that we have are constraints,” he said.

Earlier, the Executive Councillor of New Generation Development, Sports, Culture and Entrepreneur Development, Amirudin Shari, informed that the provisions to improve the sports facilities in the state will be increased by eight times compared to the previous provision.

He said that the increase in development expenditure will be done to meet the needs of every sports complex owned by the state in every district.
