Dengue cases increase by 212% as of October

SHAH ALAM, 29 Oct: The cumulative total of dengue cases reported across the country from January until October 18 increased by 212 percent to 82,738 cases compared to 26,527 cases reported for the same periof in 2013.

The Director General of Health, Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that cumulative deaths as of October 18 are 157 compared to 59 during the same period last year.

Survey by the ministry from January to October 11 shows 3.99 million premises inspected across the country and 13,013 compounds issued, worth over RM6 million.

Quoting Bernama, he said that there has been an increase of 19 percent during the period of seven days from October 12 to October 18, with 2,160 cases reported compared to 1,822 cases in the previous week.

He said that the 10 states that have experiences an increase in dengue cases for the period are Selangor, Malacca, the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Terengganu, Penang, Perak, Kelantan, Negeri Sembilan, Pahang and Johor.
