SHAH ALAM, 14 Nov: DAP congratulated the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, who managed to solve the Malay and Iban language Bible seizure issue which has lasted for almost a year.

DAP Parliamentary Leader Lim Kit Siang hopes that it will be the starting point towards a Malaysia that practices moderation.

“Congratulations are in order to the Selangor Mentri Besar Azmin Ali in resolving the nearly year-long Selangor controversy.

“The amicable resolution to the issue of the seizure of Malay language Bibles and Malaysia’s assumption of the annual rotating ASEAN Chairmanship for 2015 are two welcome developments which should be the basis to usher in a virtuous cycle of moderation and establish Malaysia as a regional and international model of moderation,” he said in a statement today.

During a ceremony in conjunction with the honorary visit by the Chairman of the Association of Churches Sarawak (ACS), Rev. Archbishop Datuk Bolly Lapok, to the Shah Alam Palace this morning, the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS) returned 351 copies of the Bibles to ACS.

In the meantime, the veteran DAP leader reiterated the call to end racial and religious tensions that have hindered the country’s development over the years.

“There is urgent need for Malaysians to avoid narrow communalism which could go against the spirit of a Malaysian community.

“It is time for Malaysians, regardless of race, religion or politics, to take pro-active steps to arrest the serious polarization both of race and religion which had beset the country and created serious national divisions and discord in the country,” Kit Siang added.
