Sedition Act becomes BN’s political interest

SHAH ALAM, 8 Dec: The investigation against the Taman Medan Assemblyman, Haniza Tahla, under the Sedition Act regarding the Permata funding shows injustice by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government under the leadership of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

PKR MPP member, N.Surendran, said that the move proved that the BN government is abusing the Sedition Act for their political interests.

He said that this is conflicting with the statement by Najib of wanting to retain the Sedition Act in efforts to maintain racial harmony.

“However, representatives elected by the people are considered as committing a crime when questioning the Permata provisions. What do the provisions have to do with racial harmony,” said Surendran in a media statement.

He said that Najib and Umno leaders must stop deceiving the people by claiming the the Sedition Act is used to maintain racial harmony.

“It is an extreme act when the Sedition Act is used against representatives of the people, like Haniza Talha, who only questioned the provisions on behalf of the people,” he said.
