28 flood victim families receive Selangor Government’s donations

KAPAR, 28 Dec: The anxiety of flood victims in Kampung Kapar was made a little better when the Selangor State Government extended its donations last night.

The cash donation of RM500 and food was delivered by the Chief Minister, Mohamed Azmin Ali, who rushed to the flood evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdul Samat as soon as he landed at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Sepang.

When delivering his short speech, Mohamed Azmin apologised the victims for not visiting the evacuation centre sooner due to a two-day working visit to Kelantan.

“I apologise for not being able to come earlier because I was in Kelantan for two days since Friday as we are well aware that Kelantan suffered the most devastating flood since 43 years ago.

“As a government that cares about the people, of course it is not just about caring for the welfare of the people of Selangor alone, but we are also responsible for helping those experiencing disaster in other states.

“On behalf of the state government I express my sympathy and love to the flood victims here and I hope for you to be patient with this test of God,” said Mohamed Azmin when visiting the flood evacuation centre at Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdul Samad last night.

Mohamed Azmin explained that he decided to postpone his visit to Ipoh, Perak, as soon as the Exco for Health, Welfare and Women’s Affairs, Dr Daroyah Alwi, informed him about the flood situation here.

Meanwhile, Dr Daroyah informed Selangor Kini that Mohamed Azmin was supposed to go to Ipoh to deliver assistance from the Selangor Government to the Perak Government.

Apart from visiting the flood victims at Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdul Samad, Mohamed Azmin earlier met with flood victims who are being placed at the Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Binjai Evacuation Centre.

Yesterday, 78 people from 18 families living at Jalan Kenangan and Jalan Benteng, Kampung Kapar, were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Abdul Samat after their respective homes were flooded due to heavy rain for the past few days.

Meanwhile, 10 families from Kalan Persiaran Hamzah, Kampung Meru, were placed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Sungai Binjai.
