100 DAYS: New administration celebrates Assemblymen from the opposition

FOR the Kota Damansara Assemblyman from BN, Halimaton Saadiah Bohan, the current state government administration is willing to invite the Selangor opposition to participate in programmes.

“If compared to before, as to my knowledge, there was no invitation to participate in the Chief Minister’s programmes.

“But now, the situation is slightly different when we are invited to celebrate together in fieldwork or visitation programmes.

“This gives us the opportunity to be equally involved in championing the interests of the people. This move is more to the opposition than ever before,” said the Umno elected representative.

Halimaton admits that the appearance and persona of Mohamed Azmin during the recent Selangor State Assembly (DNS) session were even more convincing.

“The difference was when Mohamed Azmin could answer questions and deal with issues confronted with with confidence. But, we have to see his implementation.

“Because ultimately, the people do not just want to hear words, but actions that lead to overall benefit,” she said.

The Permatang Assemblyman, Sulaiman Abdul Razak, also praised the fieldwork and visitation efforts practiced by Mohamed Azmin to approach and solve the people’s issues.

“We welcome this strategy which enables him, as the state’s top leader, to visit and personally look into the people’s lives.

“Efforts such as these allow the agencies involved to work more diligently and effectively to address the issues raised.

“However, fieldwork and visitation programmes need to be expanded to many other fields and areas,” he said.

At the same time, he acknowledged Mohamed Azmin’s generosity in providing an allocation of up to RM200,000 to Assemblymen from the opposition despite the issue of ‘sincerity’ being raised in relation to the issue.

Discarding the question of sincerity, which is considered difficult to assess and interpret, Sulaiman said that at least the effort is a good start to the maturity of the state administration.

Previously, representatives from the opposition were not given an allocation in the state budget.

“The same goes for the opportunity given to representatives from the opposition to be published in the Selangor Kini official newspaper.

“Previously, there was no such opportunity when funds channelled used the people’s money who are from various political affiliations.

“I hope it lasts, also balanced reports were given and not just mere reports, but also criticism and reprimands to the state government administration.

“This is not something that is politically motivated, but the transparency of information and media freedom, as provided in the state enactment,” he said.

Previously, Mohamed Azmin declared his determination to uphold the Bugis tradition of ‘amaradekangeng’ as an inspiration to celebrate the opposition in the state administration of Selangor.
