SHAH ALAM, 1 Jan: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MMD) today issued a second category warning on strong winds and rough seas.
It is expected that the northeast winds at a speed of 50-60 kilometres per hour (kmph) with waves up to 4.5 metres are constant in the waters of Samui, Tioman, Condore, Bunguran, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Reef South, Labuan, Sulu and Palawan, until January 4.
Referring to the MMD website, strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to all shipping and beach activities, including fishing and ferry services.
There are also warnings of thunderstorms continuing to happen in the waters of Tioman, Bunguran, Reef South, Reef North, Layang-Layang, Palawan and Sulawesi until this evening.
The situation may result in strong winds up to 50 kmph and rough seas with waves reaching 3.5 metres and this is dangerous to small boats.
Meanwhile, strong northeast winds as a speed of 40-50 kmph with waves up to 3.5 metres are expected to happen at the waters of Kelantan, Terengganu, Pahang, East Johor, Sarawak, Sabah (inland, West Coast, Sandakan and Kudat) the Federal Territory of Labuan, until January 4.
The strong winds and rough seas are dangerous to small boats, sea recreation and sea sports.
At the same time, thunderstorms are also happening in the waters of Sabah, covering Kudat and the West Coast, Federal Territory of Labuan, Sarawak and Selangor, as well as Johor, this evening.
Yesterday, the MMD issued an orange level warning of continuous heavy rainfall, intermittent rain showers and occasionally moderate rain in Sabah, namely Kudat, the West Coast, the Inlands and Sandakan, as well as the Federal Territory of Labuan, which is expected to continue until today.
