PKR sends letter to allow Anwar to attend Parliament on March 9

PETALING JAYA, 2 Mar: A letter asking for Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to attend the Parliamentary session starting March 9 was sent to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia, today.

The PKR Parliamentary Members Whip Chief, Datuk Johari Abdul, said that this was centered on the Article 48 of the Federal Constitution.

He said that Pandikar Amin confirmed that Anwar is still the Permatang Pauh MP and the Opposition Leader.

“The petition was submitted to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu’adzam Shah, and has not been disposed.

“I ask Pandikar Amin to use his position as the Speaker of the House of Representatives to manage Anwar’s presence,” said Johari at a press conference here at the PKR headquarters.

Johari said: “Article 4 (4) (c) also explains that Anwar will only be disqualified as a Member of Parliament after the petition submitted is disposed (rejected)”.

Johari said that he personally handed the application letter to Pandikar Amin this morning while the copy was given to the Secretary of Parliament, Datuk Roosme Hamzah.

The first meeting of the Third Session of the 13th Parliament will convene until April 9, 2015.
