Recycling pilot project to be launched this year

SHAH ALAM, 4 Mar: Selangor will launch a recycling pilot project this year, also the only programme in Malaysia, said Exco for Local Government, Ean Yong Hian Wah.

He said that the State Economic Planning Unit (UPEN) is in the process of research and coordination of the programme.

“This is the first time such a programme is being implemented. We have no experience in handling such a project, either at the state or national level.

“We will choose a few local authorities and special places as a trial,” he told Selangor Kini.

He was met during the Chinese New Year Dinner with new village and quay chiefs at the Shah Alam Club last night.

Elaborating, Ean Yong said that the programme, among other things, aims to educate the people in separating domestic waste.

“We will examine the attitudes of the residents in disposing types of waste. In the early stages, we will ask residents to divide wet and dry waste.

“When we pass this stage, only then we will refine more types of waste to be disposed of,” he said.
