SHAH ALAM, 15 Mar: The number of dengue cases showed an increase from late January to early February with 3,000 to 3,5000 number of cases reported each week.
The Malaysian Health Ministry (KKM) Director General, Noor Hisham Abdullah, said that 33 hotspots have been sprayed with the Outdoor Residual Spray (ORS), a new spraying technique for the control of Aedes mosquitoes.
He said that the ORS was implemented in districts with a high number of dengue cases such as Petaling, Hulu Langat, Gombak and Klang on February 11.
“The results of the ORS spraying is that it was found that the number of outbreaks in Selangor reduced from 783 dengue outbreaks, a 10 percent reduction within a week,” he said in a press statement.
For the same period, the number of hotspots also decreased in Selangor from 256 hotspots to 223 hotspots, a reduction of 13 percent.
In addition, the Institute for Medical Research (IMR) found companies capable of producing paint containing deltamethrin or insecticide that can kill mosquitoes when they rest or come in contact with the paint.
KKM also encourages other ministries to conduct prevention activities to prevent mosquito breeding.
